Major Goals of Training Program
This is a combined training program with strong clinical experience in both pediatrics and internal medicine with six allergist-immunologists on the faculty. In the two years of training, the first year has a larger component of clinical exposure and the second year allows for more emphasis on research with protected research time. This is the second oldest medical school in the western United States, and the allergy-immunology fellowship has prepared physicians for successful careers in academic medicine and community practice for four decades.
There are excellent facilities including a new university hospital on the island of Galveston, and we also serve our surrounding community at several other clinical sites nearby. For the past two years the clinical service of this university has been ranked among the top 10 academic institutions in the US. Our allergy-immunology clinical experience includes an intense schedule of outpatient and inpatient consultations for individuals with difficult asthma and respiratory allergies, congenital and acquired immunodeficiencies, atopic, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
