Major Goals of Training Program
Our program is a new pediatric-internal medicine allergy-immunology fellowship program housed within the Division of Immunology, Allergy and Rheumatology at Memorial Healthcare System. Fellows train at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, Memorial Regional Hospital and Memorial Hospital West. Memorial Healthcare System is affiliated with Florida Atlantic University and Florida International University. Fellows receive in-depth experience in the full spectrum of allergic and immunologic diseases for both children and adults. Each individual faculty has expertise in specific areas of clinical research and patient care. There is an excellent balance between in- and outpatient experience, pediatric and adult patient populations, and patients with various allergic and immunologic conditions. In addition to core rotations in ambulatory and inpatient allergy and immunology services, fellows will participate in our immune dysregulation team, oral immunotherapy service, 22q multidisciplinary clinic, as well as a choice of electives including genetics, infectious disease, otolaryngology, pulmonology, and rheumatology.
Development of research and teaching skills are an integral part of our fellowship program. We offer a variety of research opportunities, and collaborative research projects may be conducted with other departments and divisions. Participation of the fellow throughout the research process, from conception to study design to statistical analysis of the results, and reporting of the findings, is emphasized. It is an expectation that the fellow will present his/her research at national meetings and publish results in peer-reviewed publications. To achieve continuity in research, time is allocated within the majority of rotations for research activities.

Major Goals of Training Program
Our mission is to provide comprehensive, patient-centric, and culturally sensitive clinical training in allergy and immunology to prepare physicians for a career either in clinical or academic practice. Our program is based at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, home to Jackson Memorial Hospital, a large 1,550-bed tertiary referral center. Jackson Memorial is an accredited, nonprofit hospital and the major teaching facility for the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. Fellows will perform inpatient pediatric consults at Jackson’s Holtz Children’s Hospital, one of the largest children’s hospitals in the southeast United States. It is renowned for its bone marrow transplant, solid organ transplant programs, as well as its intensive care units. Fellows will also rotate at Miami VA Healthcare System with their Division of Allergy and Immunology, a 367-bed teaching hospital in the Miami Health District, and a referral center for other veterans’ affairs hospitals throughout South Florida.
The Division of Allergy and Immunology at Jackson and the University of Miami is renowned for treating all allergic and immunological diseases. While we have a robust allergen immunotherapy practice and care for many local patients with allergic rhinitis and asthma. In particular, we excel and are a referral center for pediatric food allergies as a Food Allergy Research and Education Clinical Network Center of Distinction, and primary immunodeficiency as a Jeffrey Modell Foundation Center of Excellence. We conduct clinical trials for emerging food allergy treatments and diagnosing new inborn errors of immunity and dysregulation. We partner with immunologists at the University of Miami for cutting-edge science research collaborations. The faculty for the fellowship program is committed to trainee education. Fellows will be well prepared for their board certification exam, receive formal training in allergy and immunology procedures, and be ready for academic or private practice caring for pediatric and adult patients with any allergic or immunologic disease.
