AAAAI Collaborative Translational Mechanistic Research Seed Award

The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) is committed to supporting cutting-edge and impactful translational research focused on the prevention, pathobiology, diagnosis and treatment of asthma and allergic and immunologic disorders. We recognize that team science is increasingly required to tackle complex problems and achieve scientific breakthroughs. To foster this collaboration, we are launching the Collaborative Translational Research Seed Award.

The goal of this award is to support highly innovative translational research on new diagnostics, therapeutics, or mechanistic understandings of human disease recognizing disease heterogeneity by providing the initial funding for a collaborative research project between accomplished clinical MD/DO researchers and PhD or basic scientists. This award provides a $100,000 one-year award, renewable for a second year to enable a meritorious principal investigator (PI) to partner with a PhD or basic scientist Co-Investigator (Co-I) and use emerging technologies and/or high-dimensional analyses to further patient-oriented research with preference given to those projects addressing understudied populations.

Projects must be based on a clear unmet clinical need in allergy / immunology and propose innovative approaches that combine patient-based insights with molecular, cellular or systems-level investigations. Both the PI and the Co-I must be AAAAI members or submit a membership application at time of grant application. If awarded, recipients must retain AAAAI membership during their award cycle. In addition, successful applicants must have a track record of productivity in the field of allergy / immunology and propose a clear plan for sustained collaboration and funding beyond the award period.
