Mold allergy

Question:

8/31/2020
I'm seeing an 18 year-old male patient with a history of rash. The parent is attributing possibly to mold exposure in their apartment (molds noted on the walls and parent is trying to break the lease). The parent is asking for a mycotoxin panel (which is offered by CPL). From what I've read, these panels are not validated or clinically useful in this situation, but would appreciate your thoughts.

Answer:

As Allergists, we would address the question of a mold allergy by looking for specific IgE to the mold in question either through skin prick testing or blood testing. I do not order nor suggest any other blood testing for mold issues.

I hope this is helpful.
