Metal testing

Question:

8/26/2020
I had a patient present with contact metal allergy. We set her up for patch testing. She brought to her appointment a lab report from her dentist called a Clifford materials reactivity testing. Is this test evidenced based?

Answer:

If the patient is presenting for evaluation of contact dermatitis to metal then one should proceed with the appropriate patch testing to understand if the patient had a delayed type hypersensitivity reaction to the metal in question. I looked on the website of Clifford Metal Testing and they are suspending all testing effective 8/28/2020.

I hope this is helpful
