Has desensitization protocol to temsirolimus or everolimus been reported?

A:

Thank you for your inquiry.

I am not aware of any report citing a protocol for desensitization to either temsirolimus or everolimus. I could find none via a literature search. However, I am going to forward your question to Dr. Mariana Castells who probably has more experience with desensitization to chemotherapeutic agents than anyone in the country. She may have had experience with desensitization to either of these agents which has not yet been published. When I hear from Dr. Castells, I will forward her response to you.

Thank you again for your inquiry and we hope this response is helpful to you.

Sincerely,
Phil Lieberman, M.D.

Response from Dr. Mariana Castells:
I recall a slow desensitization to everolimus, which we did not publish. The reaction was a delayed maculopapular rash but no anaphylaxis.

If given a clinical scenario, I can provide more details. There is no universal cross-reactivity between everolimus and temsirolimus, and if a patient reacts to one, a challenge to assess tolerability to the other should be done.

Best Regards,
Mariana Castells, M.D., Ph.D.
