CSU and COVID-19 vaccines

Question:

1/4/2021
I have an inquiry about possible issues and/or adverse effects with either of the two approved mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and having a clinical history of chronic spontaneous urticaria/angioedema (CSU). The FDA does not mention CSU as it related to the current vaccines upon my review. I am requesting expert guidance and/or opinion regarding possible (if any) issues/adverse effects with CSU patients receiving the currently approved mRNA COVID-19 vaccines.

Answer:

CSU has not been reported as a risk factor for reactions from the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. There would be no reason to not immunize someone with CSU and there is no reason to assume they have any higher risk of a reaction than the general population.

I hope this is helpful.
