Allergic contact dermatitis

Question:

11/11/2019
I was requested to see a patient for desensitization to propylene glycol, a common contact allergen. Are others performing desensitizations to contact allergens in experimental or research protocols? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22828252

Answer:

As you know, the treatment of ACD is to avoid the offending allergen and when avoidance is not possible, to use protective clothing during exposure. I found your question to be interesting so I checked PubMed and www.clinicaltrials.gov. In addition to the publication that you cited, which was a small pilot study, the only other literature that I found was a case report of a woman with allergic rhinitis and facial dermatitis who was started on SCIT with cattle dander and a listing for a 2011 study to investigate desensitization for nickel allergy. It doesn't appear that this study was completed.

I hope this information is helpful.
