A legal question. Can a minor (age 16) come in to receive AIT injections alone if the parent gives a written consent to come alone and to be treated in case of reactions? I told them there has to be a person aged 18 or older that can make medical decisions accompany the child; but wonder if there is any specific law or regulation? Thank you.

Thank you for your inquiry.

This is certainly a problem that we all face. Unfortunately I am not going to be able to give you an answer. There are more than likely differences in state laws and practices within local communities that could well have an impact on our response. I can only suggest to you what we have done, and that is to contact your malpractice insurance carrier and obtain an official legal opinion from them.

Thank you again for your inquiry and I am sorry that we are unable to give you a response to this medicolegal inquiry.
