Unfortunately, your reference lab is correct. I think I failed to make myself crystal clear on this point, and I understand how you could have misunderstood. However, the entry you referred to was posted on 5/4/2012, entitled “Allergic reaction to ice cream containing kernel oil, locust bean, and carrageenan: availability of serum-specific IgE testing to these potential allergens.” The quote to which you referred was as follows:
“Kernel oil usually refers to the oil from the palm. There is a serum-specific IgE to oil palm pollen (ImmunoCAP), but I could find no test for serum-specific IgE to kernel oil per se.”
To clarify, by this I meant that there is specific IgE to the pollen of the oil palm tree, but there is no available serum-specific IgE to the oil per se.
