Is there a definitive paper or strongly worded paper (parameter) that is available regarding RCM reactions. Specifically, the radiologists at our facility will not perform any contrast studies on ANY patient with a h/o any allergy (drug, food, seasonal) or asthma unless they are pre - medicated. The most recent case, they refused to perform a contrast study on a patient with a h/o bactrim allergy without first premedicating the patient.

Thank you for your inquiry.

The American College of Radiology has a manual which discusses the selection of patients for pretreatment. Copied below is a link to this manual which is available to you online free of charge. I believe you should find this helpful in your discussions with the radiologist at your institution.

This Seventh Edition of the ACR Manual on Contrast Media developed by the ACR Committee on Drugs and Contrast Media.

Thank you again for your inquiry and we hope this response is helpful to you.
