Choosing Wisely Videos

The goal of Choosing Wisely, which is an initiative of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Foundation, is to increase conversation among physicians and patients by helping patients choose care that is:

  • Supported by evidence
  • Not duplicative of other tests or procedures already received
  • Free from harm
  • Truly necessary

To spark these conversations and make wise choices regarding diagnosis and treatment across specialty areas, participating organizations create evidence-based lists of "Five Things Physicians and Patients Should Question." In 2012 the AAAAI was one of nine medical organizations involved in the first round of developing lists of "Five Things Physicians and Patients Should Question." The AAAAI's participation in Choosing Wisely continued with the release of a second list of "Five Things Physicians and Patients Should Question" at the 2014 AAAAI Annual Meeting in San Diego.

The videos on this page explain the 10 items that make up the AAAAI's first and second Choosing Wisely lists.

Visit the Choosing Wisely website to view the AAAAI's complete list with additional details about the recommendations and evidence supporting each item.

Practice Wisely is a feature that debuted in July 2021 and appears in the AAAAI’s Practice Matters newsletter.
