Hypersensitivity Vasculitis Defined

Hypersensitivity Vasculitis is an intense immune reaction to a drug, infection or other substance that causes inflammation and damage to blood vessels. This condition  typically occurs in the layers of the skin, but it may progress to other parts of the body such as the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys or joints.

Symptoms can include purple colored patches, blisters or lesions, or urticaria (hives).

The condition is also referred to as leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LCV).
