AAAAI working to extend telehealth access

The AAAAI is one of a range of physician, patient, and public health organizations calling on Congress specifically to immediately reinstate access to telehealth benefits available for patients covered by high-deductible health plans coupled with Health Savings Accounts (HDHP-HSAs). The AAAAI also joined as one of 336 business and healthcare groups in a broad call to make the pandemic telehealth provisions permanent.

Protecting Rural Telehealth Access Act an important bill for rural and underserved patient access
The AAAAI has sent a letter to Senators Manchin, Ernst, Shaheen, and Moran in support of the Protecting Rural Telehealth Access Act (S. 1988) which was introduced last week. The bipartisan legislation would ensure rural and underserved community healthcare providers are able to continue offering telehealth services, including the ability to offer audio-only telehealth appointments, after the current public health emergency ends. S. 1988 would also permanently waive the geographic restriction allowing patients to be treated from their home.

The AAAAI has sent a letter of support to Senate sponsors of the CONNECT, highlighting our support for making telehealth expansions created for the COVID-19 pandemic permanent, expanding Medicare coverage, and additional provisions that have improved telehealth capacities and expanded patient care opportunities for allergist / immunologists, particularly for vulnerable patients.
