Overview
The William E. Pierson Faculty Visitation Program was established by an unrestricted educational grant from sanofi aventis pharmaceuticals to bring visiting allergist/immunologists to selected academic medical centers without an allergy/immunology (A/I) training program or a significant A/I faculty presence.The program offers an excellent educational opportunity to provide medical students, residents, house staff and local physicians with up-to-date information about allergy, asthma and immunology within a 2-day period through intensive teaching and consultation.
The Ideal Pierson Visitation Program Includes:
- Formal lectures/grand rounds,
- Interactive case conferences,
- Ward rounds on select patients, etc.
- Laboratory discussions, or
- Other educational formats as requested.
Presentation Topics
- An overview of common allergic conditions including:
- Asthma/allergy connection
- Complications of allergies
- Allergic emergencies
- Food allergies (for pediatrics)
- Drug allergies (for internal medicine)
- Recurrent or serious infections
- Information on "when to refer" to an allergist / immunologist.
- Information on careers in allergy / immunology
- Other requested topics, such as urticaria / angioedema, care of the pregnant asthmatic, atopic dermatitis, etc.
