Major Goals of Training Program
The University of Washington Training Program provides strong research and clinical training in adult and pediatric allergy/immunology. Adult allergy/immunology/asthma clinics are held at the University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Virginia Mason Medical Center, and Pacific Medical Center in Seattle. Pediatric allergy/immunology/asthma clinics are held at the Seattle Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center (CHMC). A major goal is to prepare individuals for a career in academic medicine. All fellows are expected to participate in basic and/or clinical research studies, and to present and publish the results of their work; NIH training grants are available for funding of Internal Medicine and Pediatric Trainees pursuing academic careers. Methods Used in Research. Models: a. gene transfer in mice, b. In vivo mouse model of asthma, c. allergen challenge and sputum induction in patients with asthma; Methods: PCR, In situ hybridization, gene sequencing, FACS, immunocytochemistry, electron microscopy.
