There is a cross-over of pediatric residents in the medicine track and medicine residents in the pediatric track to achieve an excellent and well-rounded clinical training in pediatric and adult allergic and immunologic diseases. Particular attention is provided to development of skills in clinical investigation and basic research. Trainees are expected to present the results of their research projects at national meetings and in peer-reviewed publications. The overall program at Baylor includes more than 80 faculty and staff.

Major Goals of Training Program
This is a combined pediatric-internal medicine program. No differentiation is made between pediatric and internal medicine applicants. The patient mix is approximately 20 percent pediatric and 80 percent internal medicine. Emphasis is placed upon and extensive exposure is given to both inpatient and outpatient clinical problems in allergy and immunology. Equal emphasis, however, is placed upon both formal education and research, both clinical and basic benchwork. Trainees are expected to present the results of their research projects at national meetings and in peer reviewed publications.

Major Goals of Training Program
This is a combined training program with two years of clinical experience in both pediatrics and internal medicine and one year of full-time research. This is second oldest medical school in the western United States , and the allergy-immunology program has prepared physicians for successful careers in academic medicine and community practices for over three decades. All facilities are fully integrated on one campus, and there are a wide variety of patients of all ages with complex allergic and immunologic disorders. The clinical experience includes an intense schedule of outpatient and inpatient consultations for individuals with difficult asthma and respiratory allergies, congenital and acquired immunodeficiencies, atopic, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The primary goal is to train academic allergists/immunologists.
A comprehensive conference schedule exposes fellows to a didactic review of basic and clinical allergy-immunology. Fellows take an active role in these conferences, and gain considerable experience in teaching medical students, residents, and other postdoctoral fellows in the program.
The program involves rigorous exposure to basic and clinical research in asthma, allergy and immunology. Fellows are expected to show independence in study design and execution of projects under experienced mentors. Presentation at national meetings and publications in high quality journals are anticipated. A three-year program is required and preference is given to applicants seeking an academic career.

Major Goals of Training Program
This is a combined Pediatric and Internal Medicine program that provides a systematic educational and clinical experience. The program provides extensive clinical experiences related to allergic diseases, congenital and acquired immunodeficiencies, stem cell transplantation and systemic inflammatory disorders. A balanced, approximately equal exposure to adult and pediatric patient populations is provided during both years. This training program enjoys the active participation in clinical teaching experiences by both full-time faculty members at the medical school and part-time faculty members who are in practice. Selective rotations in private practice settings and in related disciplines also provide opportunities for diversification. Regular consult rounds, journal clubs and clinical conferences provide relevant didactic experiences. A carefully organized and supervised original research project is an important part of the curriculum in this program; trainees routinely present the results of their studies at national meetings and in peer-reviewed journals. The research project is developed by the trainee in concert with input from one or more of the faculty and is not limited in scope or content to projects currently in progress in the Division of Allergy and Immunology.
This Allergy and Immunology training program is designed to prepare physicians for careers demanding the highest level of Allergy and Immunology subspecialty care. For those considering or committed to becoming academic physicians, training can also include the additional research experience required to initiate an academic career.
