Major Goals of Training Program
This is a pediatric-internal medicine program with entry tracks for residents trained in pediatrics, internal medicine, or combined, and it has been accredited by the ACGME since 1988. The Allergy/Immunology Training Program, which falls under the Department of Pediatrics (USF), is affiliated with All Children's Hospital, Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Florida and the Allergy/Immunology Training Program in the USF Department of Internal Medicine. Trainees receive in-depth experience in the full spectrum of allergic and immunologic diseases in both children and adults. Individual faculty each has expertise in specific areas of basic and clinical research. Collaborative research projects may be conducted with other departments and divisions of the university. Development of skills in clinical and basic research is facilitated by the extensive clinical material and state-of-the-art research laboratories with capability to address the full range of basic immunologic, cell biologic, and molecular procedures. Hands-on participation in research projects, according to individual interests is emphasized as is formal presentation of research at national meetings and preparation of peer-reviewed publications. Adequate time for research is provided in both years. A third year for additional research is available for those who are interested in an academic career or an exceptionally academic-type practice.

Major Goals of Training Program
Trainees (fellows) receive in-depth experience in atopic and allergic diseases, asthma and related respiratory conditions, primary and secondary immunodeficiency, bone marrow transplantation, all aspects of clinical immunology including rheumatologic and autoimmune diseases, and the various immunodiagnostic procedures available in a diagnostic clinical immunology laboratory. Development of skills in clinical investigation and research is facilitated by state-of-the-art research laboratories with the capability to address the full range of basic immunologic, cell biologic, molecular biologic, and clinical procedures.

Trainees will be involved in consultative and out-patient care at Tampa General Hospital, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, All Children's Hospital, USF Adult and Pediatric Allergy/Immunology and Immunodeficiency Clinics, James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital, and private physicians' offices and will attend six weekly conferences on basic immunology and clinical allergy and immunology given by residents, fellows, and faculty from the USF College of Medicine.
