Early morning dental appointments for asthmatics?

11/2/2009
Question It has been noted that dental hygiene appointments should be scheduled in late morning or late afternoon; what is the rationale behind this recommendation that makes asthmatic patients more manageable at this time?
Answer Thank you for your inquiry.

I am sorry but I am not familiar with this recommendation and can think of no rationale for it. Perhaps you are referring to a suggestion that patients allergic to latex schedule early morning appointments since there might be less powder from latex gloves in the air at that time. We do not suggest this to our asthma patients unless they have latex allergy. If you have a source for this I would be happy to review it further, but at this time I cannit shed any light on this recommendation.

Thank you again.
