Physician Referral Directory: FAQs

  • Who is the AAAAI?
    The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) is the largest professional medical specialty organization representing allergists, clinical immunologists, allied health professionals, and other physicians with a special interest in allergy. The AAAAI has over 6,000 members in the United States, Canada and in 75 other countries.

  • Who qualifies to be listed?
    The AAAAI Physician Referral Directory is a membership benefit available to physician members who are in good standing and meet the following criteria:
    • Physician has indicated that he or she sees patients
    • Dues are paid
    • Physician has provided at least one practicing occupation
    • Has not indicated that he or she would like to be left out of the directory (members have the option of opting-out of the online directory if they choose).

    The online information is obtained from the membership directory questionnaire and entered into the AAAAI’s database. This information is uploaded to the Web site on a routine basis. If you are an AAAAI member and wish to update your information or be added to the directory, please contact:

  • What is a Residency?
    A period of advanced, specialized medical or surgical training in a graduate medical education program. Before entering a fellowship in allergy and immunology, a doctor should have successfully completed a three-year residency in Internal Medicine or Pediatrics.
  • What is a Fellowship?
    An allergy and immunology fellowship is two years of full-time education in an allergy and immunology training program. The fellowship program is designed to prepare specialists in the delivery of skilled medical or consultative care to patients with allergic and immunologic disorders, including asthma and other related disorders.

  • What are Certifications?
    AAAAI members usually have one or more board certifications. Some of the most common are:
