Sinusitis

Sinusitis

Sinusitis is inflammation and infection of the sinuses. Symptoms may include postnasal drainage, cough, nasal congestion, bad taste and headache. Sinusitis is very common and often associated with allergies. An allergist can diagnosis and treat all causes of nasal symptoms, including sinusitis.

Care by allergists for sinus infection has been shown to improve medical outcomes. Allergy shots are beneficial for allergic individuals with sinusitis. Sinusitis may be associated with other diseases such as immune problems; not all sinusitis is caused by bacteria. Allergists can evaluate the possibility of underlying causes of sinusitis and identify unusual types of sinus infection.

When to see an allergist:

  • To evaluate for an allergic cause of chronic or recurrent sinusitis.
  • If surgery has been required or is being considered for sinusitis.
  • If an underlying immune disorder is suspected.
