Sinusitis: What Are Sinuses?

The sinuses are located in the front of the face in the forehead (frontal sinuses), between the eyes (ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses) and in the cheekbones (maxillary sinuses). The sinus anatomy is illustrated below. (See the Glossary for definition of terms.)

Limited sinus CT scan
Excellent images of the sinuses can be obtained on a limited sinus CT scan, which is an x-ray of the sinuses cut through the face as shown above. Compare the sinus CT scan shown below to the picture shown above.
