Rhinosinusitis: What Kind of Doctor Should I See About My Rhinosinusitis?

Since rhinosinusitis affects about 12% of Americans under the age of 45, it is not surprising that physicians spend a great deal of time treating it. Many types of physicians treat rhinosinusitis, including:

  • Allergists/Immunologists (adult and pediatric)

  • General practitioners

  • Family physicians, Internists and pediatricians

  • ENT specialists (adult and pediatric)

In a recent survey conducted by the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, it was reported that allergists devote 20-30% of their practice to treating rhinosinusitis. Allergists are internists or pediatricians who have had at least two additional years of training to treat all types of allergies, asthma, rhinosinusitis and immunological diseases and conditions. In addition, allergists keep abreast of the most current developments for treating these conditions by taking continuing medical education courses in allergy/immunology.
