Asthma control during pregancy and the incidence of allergic disease in the child
Summary:
The investigators of this study analyzed a cohort of 26,265 children born to mothers with and without asthma between 1990 and 2002. The data were obtained from three Quebec databases. The presence of asthma in the mother was associated with an increased risk of atopic dermatitis, but not allergic rhinitis. Neither asthma control nor severity was associated with either outcome.
Maternal allergic rhinitis with the use of intranasal corticosteroids during pregnancy was associated with an increased risk of childhood allergic rhinitis.
