Factors worsening atopic dermatitis

Summary
The investigators of this study sought to identify environmental factors that might worsen eczema in children. They evaluated 60 children aged 0 to 15 years. The children were followed for nine months. Daily electronic diets and portable data loggers were employed to record indoor exposure symptoms.

They found that several factors increased symptoms including the following: nylon clothing, "unfamiliar" pets, shampoo and sweating. Wool clothing also enhanced severity for the trunk but not the limbs, whereas nylon clothing worsened severity for both areas. In terms of "unfamiliar pets," hands were affected.
