New Research - March 2009

Susceptibility to asthma is affected by variations in genes involved with the innate immune system and country living affects this susceptibility

The investigators desired to see whether SNPs in CD14, TLR2, TLR4, and TLR9 genes were associated with asthma, and to determine whether or not country living modified these potential associations.

They did find that TLR2 and CD14 SNPs were associated with asthma (TLR2) and allergic asthma (CD14). Country living did modify this association. This was especially true for the allergic asthmatic subjects.
