Senstivity to trichophyton and asthma severity

The authors evaluated asthmatics who were classified as mild (123), moderate (101), or severe (34), as well as 114 healthy controls. They obtained specific IgE titers to trichophyton rubrum as well as mixed molds, dust mite, cat dander, dog dander, Japanese cedar pollen, and mixed Gramineae pollens, and mixed weed pollens.

They found that trichophyton specific IgE was higher in moderate asthmatics than controls and mild asthmatics. In severe asthmatics, it was yet higher, significantly increased over that found in mild and moderate asthmatics as well as controls. Mild asthmatics did not differ from controls. They concluded that specific IgE response to trichophyton may be associated with more severe asthma.
