Omalizumab Compared to Suplatast Tosilate for Treatment of Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis

Summary
Suplatast is a T-helper 2 (Th2) cytokine inhibitor. In this study, which was a randomized, double-blind, double-dummy evaluation in 308 Japanese patients with a history of moderate to severe seasonal allergic rhinitis, suplatast was compared to omalizumab

The omalizumab group demonstrated significantly lower mean daily nasal severity scores, reduced medication requirements, and a reduced proportion of days when rescue medication was needed.

The authors concluded that omalizumab showed significantly greater improvements than suplatast for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis.
