Allergen extract mixtures: compatibility and cross-reactivity

Summary
This is a concise and practical review of which allergens, because of their cross-reactivity, can be used to create allergen mixtures with the minimum number of species required for coverage. It also discusses the compatibility and stability of mixtures. There is a figure on Page 660 which summarizes the compatibility of allergens. A few salient points taken from this article are:

  1. Pollen extracts are susceptible to fungal proteases, but are compatible with mite extracts if stored in 10% (or greater) glycerin.
  2. Cat allergen is resistant to fungal proteases.
  3. Mite allergens are resistant to fungal proteases if stored in 10% (or greater) glycerin.
