		NAB: Indoor Allergies  There are millions of people throughout the country who suffer from allergies 365 days a year. These perennial, or year-round, allergy sufferers deal with stuffy or runny noses, itchy eyes, sneezing, and wheezing all year long. Allergy sufferers often may not know they have perennial allergies because they cannot differentiate between allergy symptoms and a cold. Colds are the result of a virus infection. Perennial allergies — often caused by common triggers indoors such as dust mites, furry pets, cockroaches, and mold and fungi — are the body's physical reactions to inhaled airborne particles called "allergens." Some symptoms between a cold and allergies are similar: sneezing and a stuffy or runny nose. But, if your symptoms are also accompanied with a fever, sore throat, colored nasal discharge, and achiness, then you probably have a cold. With allergies, there is never a fever, the nasal discharge is clear, and eyes may become red and itchy. And, while a cold usually lasts about a week, allergies can last all year. <back>
