Providing effective & appropriate care        The ACGME requires residents to demonstrate the provision of care that is effective. A/I TPDs have further defined this competency to require care that is appropriate as well as effective.

The resources included in this section of the module are designed to highlight standards and guidelines against which residents can benchmark their care and to provide information that can be helpful in delivering care.

National Asthma
Education
&
Prevention Program
The National Asthma Education and Prevention Program Expert Panel Report 2: Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma provides “state-of-the-art clinical practice guidelines for diagnosing and managing asthma that update the 1991 expert panel report and incorporate the most recent scientific information available on the care of patients with asthma. Provides information on treating asthma at all severity levels and stresses both clinical and self-management strategies. Also provides a comprehensive discussion of current medications and their appropriate use.”

National Guideline Clearinghouse The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR), along with the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Association of Health Plans (AAHP) produces the National Guidelines Clearinghouse. This site provides access to evidence-based clinical guidelines. It can be searched by disease or condition, or by treatment or intervention.
