| Patient education information | Providing patients with useful and appropriate sources of educational information is an important component of patient care. The resources included in this section of the module are sources of information that are recommended for patient use. In some instances, one might choose to download and print materials from a site to use as patient handouts. In others, one might choose to refer patients directly to the site(s). In all cases, communication with patients and families about information is an important and expected component of care. |

| MEDLINEplus | Just as MEDLINE provides access to authoritative resources for health care professionals, MEDLINEplus provides resources selected by the National Library of Medicine for health care consumers. MEDLINEplus offers a large number of references to asthma, for example. Some resources are available in Spanish as well as in English. MEDLINEpluss references to asthma include items such as an Interactive Tutorial that can be accessed online from home or from the physicians office. A print reference version is also available. |

| NOAH: New York Online Access to Health |
NOAH is produced in English and Spanish by the City University of New York, the Metropolitan New York Library Council, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the New York Public Library. It provides full-text health information on a variety of health and medical topics. NOAH provides extensive resources on a variety of issues pertaining to asthma, for example, ranging from basic definitions to information about clinical trials. |
