Teaching Curriculum: Pregnant Patients with Asthma and/or Allergic Rhinitis

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this rotation, the rotator should be able to:

  1. Discuss the effects of anti-asthma drugs on development of the fetus and the course of the pregnancy and discuss the effects of uncontrolled asthma in pregnancy
  2. List the drugs of choice for the treatment of mild intermittent asthma, mild persistent asthma, moderate persistent asthma, and severe persistent asthma in pregnancy
  3. Describe the treatment of acute asthma in pregnancy
  4. Describe the treatment of allergic rhinitis in pregnancy
  5. Discuss allergy management in pregnancy, including environmental control and immunotherapy
