Associates to the AAAAI:  Who We Are

MISSION:
The Associates (Spouses and Friends) to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) is committed to support the AAAAI, the members, and their patients.

When We Meet
At the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI), the Associates' program and brief business meeting take place, usually on Saturday morning. Our programs strive to educate, entertain and engage our members. Our business meeting includes the election of officers for the next year, a brief statement by the Associates' President, and a program. We try to vary our programs to please our diverse membership. Locations and times are printed each year in the AAAAI Annual Meeting Preliminary Program and Final Program, at key locations in the meeting areas of the Annual Meeting and in the Associates' newsletter.

How We Work
A Board consisting of the President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-Presidents representing different areas (Membership, Program, Communication, Fundraising), and the Immediate Past-President, along with a Historian, Parliamentarian, and nine members-at-large, direct the business of the Associates (Spouses and Friends) to the AAAAI. Elections are held during the business meeting at the Academy Annual Meeting each year. Attendance at Board Meetings is limited only too current Board members and is by invitation only.

What We Do
The Associates (Spouses and Friends) to the AAAAI produces its own newsletter. Members receive information about the AAAAI Annual Meeting, about special Associates Functions and about their friends. The Associates sponsor the sale of AAAAI Logo line apparel including allergy and immunology ties, scarves and pins. Money from these sales, membership dues, and registration fees are used to promote the specialty of allergy/immunology, patient education, and other charitable causes. Past contributions have been given to:

  • Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Education & Research Trust (ART)
  • Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA)
  • Children's Asthmatic Foundation of New York
  • AAFA: Asthma and Allergy Support Group Excellence Awards
  • Evelyn Schoenkerman Asthma Camp Scholarship

The Associates (Spouses and Friends) to the AAAAI also administer the Award of Excellence Asthma Scholarship Program. Designed in 1999, as an initiative to continue its support work to the AAAAI, this program has awarded more than $250,000 in scholarships to deserving high school seniors who suffer with asthma.

Future projects of the Associates are dependent on member input and interest. All members are encouraged to be active and involved with the organization.
