Become an AAAAI allied health member
By Cheryl K. Bernstein RN, BSN, CCRCHave you considered becoming a member of the AAAAI? Allied health members represent approximately 10% of the AAAAI membership and enjoy many benefits and rewards.
Who is eligible?
Any healthcare professional working in the specialty and providing patient care can join. If you are a registered nurse, nurse practitioner (NP), physician’s assistant (PA), clinical research coordinator, respiratory therapist, licensed practical nurse, medical assistant or allergy technician, you are eligible to become an AAAAI allied health member. Medical administrators, medical technologists, research associates and pharmaceutical employees are also qualified for membership. What is the Allied Health Professional Assembly (AHPA)?
The AHPA is a group of allied health committees that actively participate in providing services and educational programs for allied health membership. The AHPA is comprised of three working forums/committees that provide education, membership benefits and information resources. The current working committees of the AHPA include the Annual Meeting Program Committee, the Membership Committee and the Academy News Committee. Sheldon L. Spector, MD, FAAAAI, and I are the current co-chairs of the Allied Health Professional Assembly. The Allied Health Annual Meeting Program Committee plans and implements continuing education activities for healthcare professionals involved in the field of allergy/immunology. The committee is comprised of three working groups: the Allergy and Asthma for the Health Care Professional (AAHCP) program, the Clinical Research (CRC) and the Medical Administrators (MA) program. The co-chairs of the Annual Meeting Program Committee are Don J. Cui, PA, AE-C, and Gary S. Rachelefsky, MD, FAAAAI.
The Allied Health Membership Committee is responsible for increasing allied health membership. This committee also develops membership benefit programs. The co-chairs of the committee are Melissa T. Korenblat-Hanin, ACSW, LCSW, and Renee Theodorakis, MA.
The Allied Health Academy News Committee is responsible for selecting topics and finding individuals to write articles for the Allied Health column in each issue of Academy News. Academy News is published 11 times a year. The chair of the committee is Stuart A. Tousman, PhD, and the vice chair is Gaynor D. Govias, BSc, BEd.
AAAAI members are encouraged to participate and join an AHPA committee. Active AHPA committee involvement ensures that the needs and interests of allied health professionals are addressed within the AAAAI.
