Academy News: August 2006
It is my privilege and pleasure to serve as president of the Associates this year. As we look forward to the AAAAI Annual Meeting, February 23-27, 2007, in San Diego, CA, the Associates’ Board and committee members are already working on several projects in preparation for this busy time. In 2006, due to the generosity of the AAAAI Board of Directors, donations from individuals and practice groups, and the proceeds from our own fundraiser, the Not-So-Silent Auction, we were able to award scholarships to outstanding high school seniors with asthma in 16 different states and Canada, through the Award of Excellence Scholarship Program. The total scholarship money given was $35,000, with 32 students receiving $1,000 scholarships, and 30 students receiving $100 merit awards. Visit the Members Center of the AAAAI Web site, www.aaaai.org, and choose the Associates link for information regarding the 2007 scholarship program along with the online application. Be sure to pass this information on to patients who will be high school seniors in 2006/2007 so that they may apply to for one of these great awards. We will also be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Associates during the 2007 Annual Meeting. To commemorate this occasion, Phyllis Rubin, Vice-President of Programs, along with her committee, is now making festive plans for our annual breakfast/business meeting. We will have great entertainment and also give special recognition to our past-presidents, who have shaped our organization over the years with creativity and direction, in order to uplift and support the work of our caring professionals in asthma, allergy and immunology. We are looking forward with much anticipation to our “silver” anniversary year. Please mark your calendars for the Associates’ Annual Breakfast and Business Meeting on Saturday, February 24, 2007. The Associates are always looking for new faces to join us on our projects and initiatives.
