2006 Associates program update
By Helen E. Ownby PhD, Associates President, 2005-2006

The 2005 Annual Meeting is history and the 2006 Annual Meeting seems like it’s in the far distance for the Associates. For those who were registered as guests for the 2004 or 2005 Annual Meetings, you should have received your first Associates newsletter of the year. In the event it arrived at the office, please make certain that it goes in your briefcase and comes home with you.

We have begun preparations for the annual Associates Breakfast and Meeting in Miami Beach, FL. The theme, obviously, is “Beach Party.” Details are still in the works. We hope to be able to entertain spouses and children in an atmosphere of shells, sand and toys. Activities for our hospitality suite are also under consideration.

The Award of Excellence Asthma Scholarship Committee has revised the application process. Beginning with the 2006 scholarship year, we will begin accepting applications from high school seniors in Canada and the United States. In addition, 2006 will mark a conversion to an on-line application process. After receiving submissions from over 2,900 applicants last year, we need to be able to streamline the process so that all eligible applicants may be reviewed in a timely fashion. Please watch the Associates Web page, www.aaaai.org/members/associates, for details. The application should be available online by September. The Award of Excellence Asthma Scholarship is funded, in part, through a grant from sanofi-aventis.

Last but not least, we have begun preparation for our third annual Not So Silent Auction. As in previous years, we are looking for the best items to draw the highest bids from AAAAI members, Associates and guests at the Annual Meeting. Please contact our AAAAI staff liaison John Augustyniak, jaugustyniak@aaaai.org, or Francene Lifson, Associates vice president of fund raising, flifson@aafasocal.com, if you are interested in contributing items. All funds raised by the auction are added to the 2006 Award of Excellence Asthma Scholarship Program.

Finally, we would like to welcome all spouses and friends to come and join us in Miami Beach, FL. Visit our Web page, www.aaaai.org/members/associates, or contact me directly, hownby@mindspring.com, if you have questions.
