Workforce Snapshot

To keep members informed, key workforce information relevant to the field of allergy/immunology will appear periodically in Academy News. This information is based on the research efforts of the AAAAI Workforce Committee.

Snapshot compares residents’ views of A/I specialty
For allergy/immunology, pediatric and internal medicine residents are the critical audience. Overall, A/I training program directors (TPDs) indicate that the specialty is viewed positively by pediatric and internal medicine residents. In 2002, TPDs stated that 87 percent of pediatric and 83 percent of internal medicine residents had somewhat positive or very positive views of the A/I specialty.

This is similar to the results from the 2001 TPD survey, where 85 percent of TPDs reported that the specialty is viewed positively by pediatric and internal medicine residents. The percentage of TPDs indicating positive views of the specialty by pediatric and internal medicine residents is higher over the last two years than in previous years of the study.
