Members Academy News: September 2003
Workforce Snapshot
To keep members informed, key workforce information relevant to the field of allergy/immunology will appear periodically in Academy News. This information is based on the research efforts of the AAAAI Workforce Committee.
The graph below compares the anticipated additional incentive income of Fellows completing training between 1999 and 2002.
Approximately half of Fellows completing A/I training in 2001 (53%) reported that they would be compensated with some sort of incentive in addition to their salary. The average (mean) base salary (without including incentives) reported by Fellows completing training in 2002 was just over $117,000. This is about $4,000 greater than the mean reported in 2001.
For the 53% of Fellows who reported anticipating additional incentive income, the average incentive was almost $17,000. Less than 19% reported expecting less than $10,000 in incentives, while 29% reported expecting $20,000 or more. A little more than half (52%) expected incentive income between $10,000 and $19,999. The distribution in 2002 was very different than in previous years, because it was more heavily weighted toward the upper end of the incentive scale. This was the first time that more Fellows reported incentives over $20,000 than under $10,000.
