September 2008 AAAAI Aids Global Fight Against Respiratory Disease Asthma, allergies and other chronic respiratory diseases do not observe national borders, ethnic differences or language barriers. Worldwide, hundreds of millions of individuals suffer from asthma, allergic rhinitis and other allergic diseases. More > Allied Health International Partnerships in Asthma Education The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 300 million people currently suffer from asthma. As many as 255,000 people died of asthma in 2005. WHO warns that asthma deaths will increase in the next 10 years if urgent action is not taken. While asthma cannot be cured, proper diagnosis, treatment and patient education can result in good asthma control. More > iPAC Summit Bolsters Pediatric Research With the goal of promoting collaborative pediatric research, many of the world’s leading academic pediatric allergist/immunologists and industry scientists convened in Portugal last fall. It was the first time that such a group had been assembled to discuss research questions and provide a forum for international interaction among pediatric researchers.
