2008 Annual Meeting sessions announced
A variety of sessions are planned for the 2008 Annual Meeting, including previously popular session formats such as Pro/Con Debates, Bring Your Own Patient Sessions, and the featured poster session and reception. With nearly 400 educational sessions, delegates will have an opportunity to earn up to 49.25 CME/59.1 CE credits.The 2008 Annual Meeting sessions include:
Plenary Sessions
The Plenary Sessions are unopposed and scheduled daily from 8:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.:

Bring Your Own Patient Sessions
These interactive sessions offer delegates the opportunity to submit case studies from their practices and discuss treatment options with fellow participants. Sessions will be held Monday, March 17, from 4:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, March 18, from 3:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.Topics include:
- Severe Asthma: The Latest
- Headaches: A Sinus Problem or Something Else
- The Patient with Recurrent Infections or PID
Allied Health: Advanced Practice Course
Friday, March 14, 8:00 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
This day-long course will highlight case studies in allergy, immunology and allergic disease, and is designed to provide a program for nurse practitioners and physician assistants that is unique to the allergy practice. New features this year include a journal discussion and the addition of the NP/PA Networking Lunch.
The 2nd International Gastrointestinal Eosinophil Research Symposium (TIGERS)
Friday, March 14, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
The focus of this day-long symposium will be on cutting-edge research on eosinophilic esophagitis, building interest among young investigators and developing a research agenda for collaborative studies. A diverse group of specialists including allergists, immunologists, gastroenterologists and pathologists are being invited to address topics including pathogenesis, allergy component, treatment, and natural history.
Pre-Dinner Seminars
Back by popular demand, five Pre-Dinner Seminars will be held concurrently on Monday, March 17, from 4:45 p.m. - 5:45 p.m. Seminar topics are:
- Current Considerations in Vaccine Use, Allergic Reactions to Vaccines and Vaccine Safety: Avoiding and Managing Adverse Effects
- Guideline Application in Difficult Asthma Cases
- Secondary (Non-HIV) Causes of Immune Deficiency
- Using the AAAAI Web Site as a Practice Management Tool
- Masqueraders of Anaphylaxis
Pro/Con Debates
The debates will be held Sunday, March 16, and Tuesday, March 18, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Topics are:

- It is Nonsense to Identify Molecular Defects in Primary Immunodeficiency Disease
- Viral Respiratory Infections Cause Asthma
- An Extensive Laboratory Evaluation is Essential in the Diagnosis and Management of Chronic Urticaria

- Asthma Severity is a More Useful Index Than Asthma Control

Member Service Programs
The Member Service Programs will again address critical information for the successful practice of allergy/immunology. Sessions will be held from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m., prior to three of the Plenary Sessions:
Saturday, March 15 – Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
Sunday, March 16 – Joint Council of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (JCAAI)
Monday, March 17 – American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI)
Featured poster session and reception
A special poster session and reception on Sunday, March 16, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., will feature science of high significance in the field. International members: discount program available
Some current members of the AAAAI may qualify for the Annual Meeting Registration Discount Program. Members in countries designated as “developing” by the World Bank, based on gross national income per capita, will receive a 50% discount on registration fees at the 2008 AAAAI Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA, March 14-18, 2008.Eligibility requirements
- Current AAAAI Fellows and members, paid through December 2007, are eligible for this discounted registration.
- Only individual delegates who pre-register for the Annual Meeting are eligible for this discount. This discount is not available to groups or on-site registrants.
- The registering delegate must reside in one of the eligible countries. A list of eligible countries is available on the Annual Meeting Web site, www.annualmeeting.aaaai.org.
Eligibility requirements will be verified before the Annual Meeting registration is processed. If a delegate does not meet the requirements, the appropriate member or nonmember registration fee will be charged.

Apply for membership, qualify for discount
There is still time to apply for AAAAI membership and take advantage of the discounted program. Non-AAAAI members may qualify as a paid member if all membership application materials are received by the AAAAI executive office no later than September 17. Delegates may apply to become an international member or an international eMember.
