Spergel et al - Predictive values for skin prick test and atopy patch test for eosinophilic esophagitis

In the February 2007 issue of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Spergel and colleagues calculated predictive values for skin testing and patch testing for food reintroduction in Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EE). The symptoms of EE are similar to symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux but do not respond to gastroesophageal reflux medications. Certain foods have been shown to be the cause of EE through the use of elimination diets or elemental formulas. Using skin testing and patch testing in designing a diet plan has a high success rate for food elimination or food introduction in EE for most of the common reaction-causing foods.
