Ho et al – Diagnostic accuracy of skin prick testing in children with tree nut allergy
In the June 2006 issue of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Ho and colleagues studied the need for food challenges using wheal diameter measurements. They used measurements of skin reactions to food to predict allergies to tree nuts and sesame. They were able to predict positive food challenge results in children with at least 95% accuracy for tree nuts. This information may significantly reduce the need for formal tree nut food challenges.
