A patient came into the pharmacy for an unusual combination of medication for allergic rhinitis. The patient was instructed by their allergist to take diphenhydramine one tablet once daily with one combination chlorpheniramine/pseudoephedrine/acetaminophen tablet every other day. According to the patient, they had not previously tried any other allergy medication. Could you please provide me with the rational for such a treatment regimen? In what circumstance would such a regimen be used?
Thank you for your inquiry.
I am sorry, but I cannot think of a rationale for the use of the exact therapeutic regimen you described in allergic rhinitis.
Thank you again for your inquiry.
