Thank you for your inquiry.
As of February 2nd, there were 5,449 Board Certified allergists in the United States. This information came from the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. How many of these are practicing cannot be determined from this number since some could have retired since obtaining their last Board certification.
In addition, one cannot obtain the number who obtain their training through Internal Medicine versus the number who obtain their training through Pediatrics or those who obtain both Med/Peds certification without looking through the data for each individual allergist. From the perspective of the Board, since the American Board of Allergy and Immunology is a joint Board of both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics, there is no distinction between the adult and pediatric board certified allergists.
Thank you again for your inquiry and we hope this response is helpful to you.
