Q:

2/6/2012
We give allergy injections here that are ordered by many different allergists from the students' home towns. All of the orders say to give the allergy injection subcutaneously using a 3/8" needle but some specify to inject at a 45 degree angle while others specify a 90 degree. Which is preferable? Thank you

A:

Thank you for your inquiry.

Both a 45 degree and 90 degree injection angle are equally acceptable. In our practice, we let the nurse administer the injection according to her own comfort in regards to the angle of injection. You will be fine by simply accepting the specific instructions for each individual extract regardless of whether or not the physician has specified a 45 or a 90 degree injection angle.

Thank you again for your inquiry and we hope this response is helpful to you.

Sincerely,
Phil Lieberman, M.D.
