Q:

7/11/2012
A patient of ours was seen by an allergist recently. She is 9 years old. She recently had a pretty severe cellulitis and lymphagnitis due to a bee sting. Her family keeps bees and has been stung previously without incident. Patient was seen by an allergist who according to mom, indicated that bee stings reactions do not get worse with subsequent exposure. Can you verify this?

A:

Thank you for your inquiry.

I can confirm the statement of your local allergist. There is no predictable pattern of recurrent local reactions to bee stings. They may never recur, they may get worse, or they may stay the same.

Thank you again for your inquiry and we hope this response is helpful to you.

Sincerely,
Phil Lieberman, M.D.
