11/25/2012 In my training many years ago, I was taught that allergy to lithium ion was impossible because the lithium ion is too small to be an antigen. Was this true? Is it still true? All of the alleged "allergies to lithium" I've encountered over the past 40 yrs seem to be adverse reactions. Thank you.
Thank you for your inquiry. I am not aware of, nor could I find on a literature search, any documented allergic (IgE-mediated) reactions to lithium. Thank you again for your inquiry. Sincerely, Phil Lieberman, M.D.
