Q:

5/10/2012
If someone received desensitization therapy (via injection) as a child/young teen, might there be a relation to autoimmune conditions in adult life?

A:

Thank you for your inquiry.

There is no evidence that allergy injections will, at any time in life, predispose a patient to the development of autoimmunity. In fact, when this issue has been studied, evidence points against there being any relationship between allergy injections and the production of autoimmune phenomenon.

Thank you again for your inquiry and we hope this response is helpful to you.

Sincerely,
Phil Lieberman, M.D.
