Q:

5/1/2013
Recently a parent voiced a concern over the fluoride used by her son's dentist that may be contraindicated for him due to his peanut and tree nut allergy. I believe she obtained this information on the internet and not directly from her dentist. Is there any cause for concern at all? Thank you for your time.

A:

Thank you for your inquiry.

I know of no scientifically validated effect of fluoride on food allergy of any sort, including peanut and tree nut allergy. Also, I could not find any reference to such in a search of the medical literature.

Thank you again for your inquiry.

Sincerely,
Phil Lieberman, M.D.
